Questions and answers

What is Call Transcriber?

Call Transcriber is a Windows 10 and 11 app by TacAssist that transcribes both sides of your calls in real time, on your own PC. It works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WhatsApp and other call apps, needs no meeting bot, and lets you copy what was said while the call is still going. It costs $14 a year after a 30-day free trial.

Does Call Transcriber join my meeting as a bot?

No. It runs on your Windows PC and listens to your own microphone and speakers, like a headset does. Nobody on the call sees a bot or gets an invitation.

Can I copy the transcript while the call is still going?

Yes, that is what it is built for. Copy everything so far, the last 5 or 10 lines, or just the other person's last message with one click or a global shortcut such as Ctrl+Alt+T, then paste it into your CRM, notes, email or chat while you keep talking.

Which apps does it work with?

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WhatsApp Desktop, Skype, Discord, Telegram, Slack, Webex and Phone Link calls are detected automatically. Any other app that plays the call through your PC works too: press Start Call.

Is my audio uploaded to the cloud?

No. Speech recognition runs offline, on your PC. Audio and transcripts stay on your computer. Only your email and licence status reach our server.

Do I need headphones?

No. On laptop speakers your microphone also hears the other person, so Call Transcriber keeps their voice and faint background sounds such as typing out of your own lines. Headphones still give the cleanest result.

Which languages are supported?

English is the main language and works offline. Hindi is available with an optional, slower offline model, or with your own Deepgram cloud key in the advanced settings.

How much does it cost?

It is free for 30 days, with no credit card. After that it costs $14 a year (the best value) or $3 a month, the same price in every country, for unlimited calls on 2 PCs. Your saved calls stay yours: you can always open, copy and export them, even without a subscription.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 (1809 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit, 8 GB of RAM and about 1.5 GB of free disk space. A 4-core processor from about 2018 or newer is recommended for live transcription.

Is it legal to transcribe my calls?

It depends on where you and the other people are. Many places require you to tell the others or get their consent before recording or transcribing. You are responsible for following your local laws; see our consent guide.

Can I use it on more than one PC?

Yes, one account works on 2 Windows PCs. Signing in on a third PC signs out the one you used least recently.

Does it work without internet?

Transcription works offline. The app needs internet to sign in, to download the speech model once, and to check your licence at least once every 7 days.

Where are my transcripts saved?

On your PC, in your user folder (you can choose another folder in Settings > Storage). Every call is saved automatically and can be searched, exported or deleted in Call history.

Can I export a transcript?

Yes, as plain text, Markdown, JSON or SRT subtitles, or copy any part to the clipboard.

Does it remove echo when I use speakers?

Yes. If the other person's voice is picked up by your microphone, the duplicate lines are removed. Headphones still give the cleanest transcript.
